Hand-painted Skirt

This dress got a number of compliments when I posted it on instagram. Just to let you know, this isn’t actually a dress but a top and a skirt. Thanks to the inspiration that I got online, I tried hand-painting the skirt and so far, I am happy with the result. Not bad for a first-timer! It is actually easy and you can also do this at home! You just need to allot time, effort, and exercise your creativity muscles!

Let me share with you how I hand-painted this skirt.

1. I used the skirt that my mom gave me. This skirt had been resting in my mom’s closet for a long time. It is time to give it a new look!

2. Textile paints and brushes. I just used two (2) colors = white and green

3. Pastel Dye Sticks

1. I first drafted the leaves and the flowers using white and green pastel dye sticks. For beginners, I would suggest to draft your design on a piece of paper before drawing it on your fabric.

2. After I finished drawing the design to my skirt, I waited for an hour to let the dye dry on the cloth.

3. To make the design permanent, I ironed the skirt. I placed a bond paper in between the iron and the cloth.

4. After ironing, you would notice that the design became subtle. This will be your template for painting.

1. Before painting, I placed a (clean) garbage bag inside the skirt to protect the posterior part just in case the cloth would absorb too much paint.

2. I painted the designs that require white paint first.

3. I painted from top to bottom.

4. Since I am using a black fabric as my canvass, I mixed white and green paint. In so doing, the green paint would be highlighted if it will be painted on a black fabric.

After painting, I air dried it and ironed it again to make the design permanent. (Make sure to place a grease paper in between the iron and the cloth as you iron it.)

🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I paired it with a black tank top and it looks good together!
