With thousands upon thousands of bloggers online, you might ask why would someone add to the number of existing blogs. That was the same question that I asked myself before deciding to have my own blog domain. I’ve been into blogging for four (4) years now. Back in 2011, I opened a free wordpress account to serve as the virtual notebook for my poems… then it served as my virtual journal. Thus, I named the said blog Sentiments from the Heart 🙂 That was the virtual place where I started pouring out my sentiments through words. That was my place where I placed myself in the shoes of other people – thinking and reacting from their perspectives. That was the place where I created stories with fictitious characters. That was the place where I did my first product and restaurant reviews… that was the place where I gained first set of readers and followers. That was the place that I learned to love.
When I started with my old blog , I started from scratch… I designed it through trial and error – very tedious!
I learned about widgets after six months of blogging. Toinks! Yah! Hence, when I decided to revamp my blog, I told myself, I want to do it correctly this time.
Rhiza is a modern-day Proverbs 31 woman. Aside from being a virtuous wife and a loving mother, she also works. WOW! She is a blissmaker who is very easy to work with. She made me feel at ease as she guided and involved me in each step of the designing process.
First she worked on my inspiration board. When she sent it to me, haaaaay… soooo pretty… and dainty… and beautiful… Haaaay… I just stared at it for couple of minutes – SPEECHLESS! She exactly captured what’s in my mind.
Then, she sent me the blog header studies based on the descriptions that I sent her. She was able to capture what I want in just one try!
I like how my blog turned out. I am grateful that God provided me with the right people to work with in this love project. If you are thinking of re-designing your blog, here are some pointers that you might find helpful.
1. Know what you want
Before talking to a blog designer, it is important that you already have an idea of what you want. The web designer will just help you breath life into your blog. Pinterest is a good avenue to help you sort out the design and colors that you want. You could create a Pinterest board for your blog inspiration.
2. Choose your web designer wisely
It is important that you are comfortable with the person that you are working with. I am grateful that Rhiza is so easy to work with. She sets aside time and puts on effort to get to know her clients.
3. Convey what you want
It is important to communicate with the person who is designing your blog. You have to discuss your expectations. Be as detailed as possible but also leave some room for your designer’s creativity.
4. Ask and Learn
Do not be afraid to ask your designer on how to operate certain features in your blog. It is important that you learn the whereabouts of your blog – after all, it is your blog! 🙂
5. Explore your Blog
You will learn the whereabouts of your blog by exploring it until you become comfortable. Learn how to put widgets or change the font size and style of your texts. It seems scary at first but it is fun after all!
